Technology

Sissonville Elementary School is committed to the philosophy that technology must be an integral part of a child's education. Currently, all of our classrooms are connected to the Learning 2020 Network. All of the school is wired and connected to the Internet. In addition, our school has a wireless access point that allows students access with their iPads throughout the building. Our students, however, are not permitted to access the Web independently. Following the Acceptable Use Policy guidelines, students are permitted to use the web as directed by the teacher.

Kindergarten through 4th grade are using a program called SuccessMaker. This is a program that engages every student in math and reading. Students take a placement test at the beginning of the year, and it will place them on their level. Each classroom gives each child time to complete the activities. Through this program teachers and administrators are able to see the gains students are making, along with skills that they have mastered and skills they struggle with.

Sissonville Elementary is constantly striving to add new technology as funds permit. As of the 2016-2017 school year, we are one-to-one with student iPads allowing teachers and students to use more technology in the learning process.  The wireless network enables students to connect regardless of their location in the building.

Each classroom has a Smart TV and an iPad that are used for interactive learning experiences with the children. With all students having access to their own iPad, teachers at SES are committed to increasing the use of technology with students as a tool for instruction and as an integral part of the learning process. The iPads have several educational APPs as well as Web Clips for websites that are specific to our school such as WBO (World Book Online) and Destiny (SES's online card catalog). The addition of the iPads is part of the 20/20 Kanawha County Initiative toward providing one-to-one devices for all students.
